Two Titles, One Good Story, November 20, 2007 By Jimla, State College PA "A Long Way to Shiloh, is the British publication of Lionel Davidson's book, The Menorah Men, the latter published in the USA. By either title it is the story of a search for the Menorah, lost when the Roman Emperor, Titus, destroyed the great Temple, the golden lamp presumed to have been carried off to Rome at the time. A scroll comes to light suggesting the Romans carried off a fake of the symbol, and the true Menorah remains hidden. Dr. Caspar Laing, the well known British archaeologist, is enlisted to work with the scroll and with Israeli co-investigators, the objective, to decode the scroll and use it ultimately to find the lost relic. Some byplay with one of the Israelis, female, embellishes the story. Obstacles must be overcome, both with the lady and the search. The overcoming provides a fine adventure in the admirable Davidson style."
