If you are a music lover of any stripe and especially if you have traveled through vinyl, eight track, cassettes, CD's, and MP3 you might enjoy this overview of the way sound has been recorded over the years - from pre-Edison until now. The book is a bit too technical in parts for the average reader like me but clearing those hurdles wasn't difficult. The last few chapters or so use examples of groups I was not familiar with (being older...) and that dents a full understanding of some chapters. Still, it was worth the trip.
