I love Susan Orlean's style of writing. In this book it is too bad that the person she has chosen to highlight isn't compelling. Highlights only include interesting tidbits of information about Florida and its swamp lands.

Orchid history
Although this is a fictional book, it contains a lot of history about the introduction and cultivation of orchids into the civilized world. It follows the author thru her acquaintance with a savant/thief who lives in Florida near the Everglades where the mysterious "ghost orchid" grows. Interesting and educational to read especially if you like orchids.
