The Great Edgar Whitney
This book was like going home for me because Whitney taught at my former art school, Pratt Insitute and because he inspired two of my favorite watercolor painters: Mel Stabin and Frank Webb. I learned a ton from the book and had bunches of my questions answered. It is far more than a "how-to" on technique although there is plenty of that kind of information; he talks about what makes a fine painting in terms of the artist's satisfaction and the viewer's pleasure and understanding.
