The complexity of engineering and building design is increasing steadily. This book provides an up-to-date reference on this subject for architects, builders and students who lack formal training in engineering. Topics covered in depth for the first time in this edition include: structural masonry, design for lateral forces, elements of dynamic behaviour, plywood shear walls and diaphragms, rigid frames, and structures with internal pins. There is also an entirely new section on the design of structural systems for buildings which contains both general discussions of basic concerns and examples of the design of elements of the systems for three buildings. The text has been designed for architects, builders, lecturers and students of architecture.

Haven't read the book cover to cover, but found that it provides a good reference if structural engineering is not your primary responsibility but you work in the industry (like geotech). Ambrose keeps things simple though sometimes doesn't always explain things, but it's still not bad all in all.

Good explination and examples of Structures
I had the 1978 or 9 version and this is a good upgrade. I would have prefered if the pratice problems also had some of the calculations and not just the final answer. Overall the book is worth the $3. I paid for a used version in pristine contidion.

thorough and handsome
Bought this for my son who is an architect. He had requested it for his studies, as one of the most complete texts on structures. He will use it all his career. BTW, the last edition can go for about 1/3 the cost of the latest one, and is much the same.
