to Southern Africa. It held my attention and I learned a lot about Africa and what to look for during my visit.

An excellent read
One of my favorite, riveting reads by Michener. From the first settlers in South Africa, to the beginnings of aparteid, his insightful look at the peoples and the history amaze me. His discriptions of people and country take you there!

deja vu
Many aspects of this incredible read remind me of America's history. One of Michener's best works, and I'm now half way through "Poland" which is also a winner thus far.

A Good Michener Tome
In Michener's style. Obviously well researched and also well written. He follows the history of southern Africa (South Africa mainly) from pre-history to the 1980's. He avoids painting anyone as perfect or without blame and points out along the way where major crossroads were passed which brought South Africa to its present (1980's anyway) situation.
