I am surprised at how much I liked this book. I started it with the idea that it would be light and fluffy, like unto the Fairy Path stories. Not so, my friends. It's not totally dark, but I'd say it definitely falls into the modern urban fantasy genre, with a dash of teen romance and a bit of steampunk thrown in. I will say that it bothers me how easily and .... oh, we'll say hormonally, these teen girls fall in love in these books. I'm a little tired of the zinging and the heart-throbbing being equal to true love. But, that's kinda how it is when you are young, and so this is just art reflecting (and magnifying) reality. And to sound even snarkier (before I step off my soap-box), let us all remember that puppy love is very important to puppies. Right then, on we go. The story is interestingly diverse, with a good mix of characters and archetypes. Meghan is a typical underdog with a very strong and realistic development over the course of the story. I like Kagawa's mix of classic myth elements with modern reality. A strong story all around. I'll be looking for the sequel when it comes out this fall.
