Some of these reviews are crazy. This is a true classic. Beautiful. A haunting classic tale. Very real and not filed with silly British debs having their classic "coming out" balls.
However, I didn't like a lot of her other books, the later work, especially when she started to get into the Russian subjects but that might be a matter of taste. However, her early work was wonderful. If you like this read Rosemary Rogers, "The Wanton." Also fantastic. Another classic.
