I never heard of China Mieville until I picked up an issue of Dragon magazine and read a lengthy review on his works of fiction. Upon first picking up my recently purchased copy of Perdido Street Station I wasn't sure what to think of Mieville's style of writing at first. The story was a little slow at the beginning and there was a lot of descriptive sentences to pick through but as the narrative progressed and I found all the description of New Crobuzon fleshing out the city with beautiful clarity allowing me to stroll through its streets as if I was there. The further I progressed through the story I found myself deeply entrenched in the story and gripping on to every moment that ticked by not wanting to miss a beat. I would strongly recommend this book to fantasy lovers and non-fantasy lovers alike.
