Gateway is about people, their successes and failures, their strengths and weaknesses, and set in an environment that tests them every moment. If there is a future for us, the key is from the past and its advanced technology.

Lonely in space...
For me it all started with a text-adventure computer game "Gateway". After finding out that it was based on a book, I simply had to get my hands on it (the book, of course). It was hard to find in my country (Poland), but after searching a bit, I got a copy in English. The book was amazing.
The style, the unrevealed mystery surrounding an ancient race, innovative (at that time) physics theories and ideas, a deep analysis of human nature and main protagonist's mind. And finally, the overwhelming feeling of loneliness of human in space, the insignificance of human life compared with the infinity and eternity of Universe - that's what makes the book so special. I've read it four times, each time discovering something new. A definite must-read for all sci-fi fans. A real classic awarded with Hugo and Nebula prizes. Followed up by five other books (last one in 2004 - "A Boy Who Would Live Forever"), creating the so-called 'Heechee Saga'. "Gateway" is the best of the bunch, although I recommend reading them all. It's a memorable adventure.
