In my opinion, Bertrice Small happens to be the greatest historical writer I have ever had the opportunity to read. There are no bad books by her. I have read all of her books and my personal favorite is still Skye O'Malley. Skye is strong, sexy and adventurous. Small is able to take you away to the time and places she writes about. I was never interested in history before reading her books but she makes it so interesting that you can't help but enjoy it. Skye O'Malley begins the saga of a very long journey as there are several sequels. Once you read about Skye you will want to continue on the journey to see where she takes you next.

Skye O' Malley is utterly charming.
I first picked this book up around five years ago and read it cover to cover in one sitting. I picked it up again yesterday and it's even better than I remembered. Small has created a strong passionate woman who isn't afraid to pursue the things that she wants. Which in the 1500's was not very common. My favorite thing about this book however was the fact that Small has absolutely no fear of things that most writers won't touch with elbow length rubber gloves, and a ten foot pole. Death, mayhem, sex, incest, by the end of the book Skye has buried three husband's and is amazingly successful. My kinda woman. Bring on the sequel.
