This was a lovely edition at a very reasonable price! A great mystery, too.

One of the Original Political Suspense Authors
I was introduced to this author by another author, Alan Furst. Ambler wrote many of his books in the 30's and 40's and are written in that period. His protagonists tend to be in over their heads as events draw out their abilities to overcome serious trouble. Furst is still writing and his books are about resistance to Germany in the 30's and 40's. I appreciate more Furst's attention to detail about the times, but Ambler is still worth reading. He draws the reader into the plot which has twists unfolding throughout his books. I have read two additional books by Ambler and his writing improved as he produced additional books. I like Ambler's writing and will continue to seek out his books.
