The Tarzan series has it all. The stories are simple but compelling, the pacing is unparalleled, and Burroughs' use of language is gorgeous. Tarzan at the Earth's Core is one of the lesser known, but certainly a wonderful example, of the series. I first read this book as a boy of ten, on vacation at my grandparents' house, and it held my interest from beginning to end. I reread it on every subsequent visit there, and it never lost its excitement. I am now, at age 70, reading it again. The story is just as compelling, and now I can also delight in Burroughs' masterful sentence structure and vivid vocabulary.
