Slow painful self-realization
Manuel seeks to understand the suicide of his best friend, the mentally ill and charismatic Gregorio. A simple premise with surprising twists as Manuel's relationship with Tania, his lover and Gregorio's (ex-)girl friend and Manuel's anti-social behavior slowly reveal the true character of the narrator Manuel to himself and the reader.
The author's use of image, e.g. the buffalo tattoo shared by Manuel and Gregorio, and conversation render the book somewhat more cinemagraphic than literary. Not Nobel Prize material but still worth your time if you're interested in alienation - personal, familial, and social.
