Stephen King may be the most interesting man alive
Stephen King's "On Writing" is truly one of the best books I've ever read. As well as being a fantastic writing tool, it is a captivating mix of autobiography and personal experience. "On Writing" takes the reader on an emotional journey where you begin to feel like Stephen King is talking directly to you. In fact, I was so swept up in his fascinating life that it made me sad to realize when I finished the book that he wasn't really there hanging out with me, his new best friend :-)
While a good portion of the book is about writing, I would wager that someone without the desire to write would still find this highly enjoyable. This would be particularly true for fans of King's novels because he shares many of his personal experiences that either assisted or hindered with the writing of certain works. It's like being given an extra look into the lives of the characters you love or hate while also seeing right into the mind of the King of Horror.
"On Writing" really boosted Stephen King into the stratosphere for me. The honest recalling of events from King's childhood will make you laugh out loud (really), they will make you cringe in horror and they will also make you realize how lucky we are to catch a peek into the mind of such a creative and creepy man.
