The Quest continues the story of the Warlock, Taita, wise in the lore of the ancient Gods and a master of magic and the supernatural. Egypt is struck by a series of terrible plagues that cripple the Kingdom, and then the ultimate disaster follows. The Nile fails. The waters that nourish and sustain the land dry up. Something catastrophic is taking place in the distant and totally unexplored depths of Africa from where the mighty river springs. In desperation Pharoah sends for Taita, the only man who might be able to win through to the source of the Nile and discover the cause of all their woes. I love the Egyptian series and Smith always takes history and inter twines it with fiction in such a way that you start feeling the dread of seeing your progress is nearing the end of the book.

Yet another marvel
In the 4th in this series, Mr. Smith has yet again exceeded all expectations and extended the story to include more mystery, more supernatural excitement, and weaving through it yet another love story. While more fiction than historical fiction, "The Quest" is a delight. So many great sub-plots weave seamlessly through this tome that to describe it would be to spoil it. It is a must read whether or not you have read the previous volumes in the series. (If you haven't, I predict you will!)
