Having read GMF's "Steel Bonnets," and knowing of his Flashman series, I wanted to see what else he did. I was not disappointed. "Mr.American," despite its rather off-putting title, is an interesting meeting of 1912 English aristocrats and their ethics and a Westerner with his. This pre-WWI era is one of my favorites - really the end of a world, so I was already predisposed to like the book. One might think it would appeal mostly to men,but I'm of the other persuasion and enjoyed it immensely. I've already passed it on to friends and will probably pull it out again when I just want an entertaining historical fiction.
