I fell in love with David Sedaris' writing when I received this book for Christmas. I have given mulitple copies as gifts to many people ever since. Read it between Thanksgiving and Christmas and you will add it to your Holiday Traditions.

Holidays on Ice is uneven trip
I'm generally a big fan of David Sedaris' satirical outlook on life and enjoy his perceptive insights into human foibles. Holidays on Ice is one of his earlier works and is a little uneven. His account of being a Christmas Elf is priceless but some of the other pieces were a little too dark for my taste. Overall a mixed bag.

In typical Sedaris style, Holidays on Ice is touching, hilarious, and dark- usually all at the same time. Loved it! The essay on working as an elf is the best!

hysterical!
Sadaris is great. His descriptions in "Santaland Diaries" were so vivid, I was picturing myself shopping with my grandmother in Boston at Christmas time. An easy read and a must read!!

hilarious
"The Santaland Diaries," the story that launched David Sedaris's career on NPR, is the best is this short collection and, frankly, one of the funniest stories I've ever read. Sedaris makes me laugh like no other author. The story of a 30-something man braving the holiday department store season in New York while dressed in a velvet elf coat, Santaland Diaries is a reminder of why we shouldn't take ourselves so seriously. All Sedaris's books, on a side note, are worth listening to as audio cds as well. He's a great reader.
