The subject of my English literature Ph.D. dissertation is related to New Historicism. I wish I could have come across Brannigan's book earlier. No text like this was able to answer my questions so well. While reading the book, you feel you can easily grasp all those difficult New Historicist, Cultural Materialist, and more importantly, Foucauldian arguments. Unlike what you may find in other volumes on New Historicism (e.g. Pieters's Moments of Negotiation), the author here proves very successful.
