A disease that knows no prejudice; for which there is no cure and inconsiderable hope. Elegy For Iris, by John Bayley, is an exceptional account of Iris Murdoch's decent into Alzheimer's Disease. She was an English writer with abstruse attention to detail. John, her husband, a professor at Oxford. Physicians cautioned them of stigmas associated with progression of the disease, but John was determined to nurture the Iris he knew was still there. Thus, as John believed, there were good and bad days. In the end, John realized a number of things that were indicative of Iris's spirit shining through.
