Shows how classical systematic theology relates to growth; how growth is not about actualization, but about sanctification; what has to happen for growth to occur; and what the Bible teaches about the responsibilities of the church and the responsibilities of the individual. This book gives gatekeepers (pastors, recovery leaders, lay leaders, paraprofessionals) tools to help people resolve issues of relationships, maturity, emotional problems, and overall spiritual growth.

Well written, insightful book. Provides great insight into the working of the Body of Christ and how God uses people to help us grow. Full of grace, full of wisdom and very practical. It is not the '7 steps to whatever....'

comprehensive
Cloud and Townsend combine to write another excellent book! However, in this book their style is different and geared towards leaders who help others "grow" as well as people who are seeking to "grow" themselves. This is a long book that takes a look at the major doctrines of the Christian faith and relate them to growth. In that sense, this book is a "survey" of many topics, which can make the book drag at times, but contains a wealth of information!
The premise of this book is that all growth is spiritual growth when effective. Emotional growth, physical growth, intellectual growth, etc. is tied up in spiritual growth. This growth occurs best in group settings of true Christian fellowship. The book is unique in that the end of every chapter this are tips for book those leading others in growth as well as those growing themselves.
