One indication of this is the fact that they were included in the programme of the Congress for 1915 as a means of obtaining A Renewed Church. In View therefore of the importance to which the movement has attained, there is a real need for a book on the subject which is at once authoritative and comprehensive. It is hoped that this composite volume will in some measure meet the need. It deals with Retreats for clergy, laymen, and women, which have many things in common though they have their own Special features. Quiet Days and Half-days, however, are not included in its scope, as the conditions under which they are held and their short duration of from four to eight hours make them quite distinct from Three-day, Two day and Week-end Retreats.
