When the first accurate statistics of the cattle in this country were collected in 1850, it was found that we had in round numbers about in 1860, in 1870 this number had been reduced to in 1880 there were while in 1885 there are not far from This last number is so great, that it is difficult for the human mind to grasp its significance or to appreciate the vast accumulation of cattle which it represents, which have been gathered together and reared by the industry and enterprise of our people.
