Der Verfasser f�hlt sich nicht nur nicht als Glied einer Partei, er hat sogar heillose Angst vor solchen; denn da Partei Sache des Willens, des Affekts ist, so bleibt auf dem intellektuellen Gebiet des Objektiven jede Verst�ndigung mit den Angeh�rigen einer solchen erschwert, wo nicht aus geschlossen. Endlich ein Drittes: Es ist meines Erachtens ein Wahn, die Bedeutung von Kunstwerken, die doch vor allem auf Gef�hlsmomenten beruht, in theoretisch-�sthetischen Formeln, also meist wohl in mode-schlagworten irgendwelcher Art er sch�pfend festlegen zu k�nnen. Mancher l�chelt wohl mitleidig, wenn er hier liest, da� in einem Kompendium f�r s�chsische Lehramtskandidaten zum Auswendiglernen f�r die Pr�fung in theoretischen Musikf�chern vermerkt steht: "richard Strau� wohl der gr��te Meister der Gegenwart, neigt aber bedenk lich zum Realismus. Der gleiche Leser aber w�rde vielleicht die aus einer gr��eren Anzahl seltenerer und in der Bedeutung unbestimmterer Fremdw�rter zusammengesetzte Formel f�r Strau�ische Kunst ganz ernsthaft dankbar aufnehmen und denken, er h�tte etwas daran. So einfach aber ist die Sache nicht; kein Buch kann das eigene Erlebnis der Kunst ersetzen; es kann im besten Fall Anweisungen geben, wie man sich darauf vorbereiten, wie man es genie�en, verarbeiten und nachklingen lassen kann, um dem Gehalt des Kunstwerks m�glichst nahezu kommen.
