Although it's set back in the Cold War, this submarine technothriller is one of the best I've read. The submarine warfare tactics are innovative and exciting, with an American sub spying in enemy waters, watching a renegade Russian Typhoon face off with the Soviet Navy. Of course, they discover the American sub is there, and it is also being hunted. The Americans have to decide how much to get involved.
