Excerpt from The Extraordinary Drought in the Philippines: October, 1911, to May, 1912 The drought experienced in the Philippines during the eight months from October 1, 1911, to May 31, 1912, has been so extraordinary that there is ground for the assertion that it was the severest ever observed in the Archipelago. Our chief aim in preparing this paper has been to show as clearly as possible, to what extent this statement is true; for which purpose we have made use of all the rain statistics in our possession, which latter, as far as Manila is concerned, cover a period of forty-seven years.
