A heart-felt tale of a man and his dog
The North Runner is a true account of R.D. Lawrence's relationship with a part wolf dog which he adopts from a native Indian. He relates the adventures they have traveling Canada together.
This book touched me deeply! I am a big dog-lover and have recently become interested in the life and history of wolves in this country. R.D.Lawrence had a beautifully descriptive style of writing and he was also extremely conscious of man's impact on nature. I have to agree with many of his opinions.
He wrote many books based in Canada, and developed many fascinating relationships with wolves, both wild and captive.

Excellent wilderness/dog/adventure story
Truly interesting AND UNIQUE story of author's five-year experience living with a wolf-malamute mix. He explains how he quickly tamed the vicious, physically abused animal simply by showing himself to be harmless and trustworthy, and then retells the most interesting parts of the whole five-year period. This man is no fool, and his naturalist background shows in the book----there is a lot of knowledge to be gleaned while you're simultaneously enjoying a novel. And, if you own a husky or malamute, you might appreciate his knowledge of these beautiful dogs. PS. Also check out NEVER CRY WOLF by Farley Mowat.
