Kid's Web Kit is an interactive CD-ROM and book package aimed at the 7-12 year-old age group, walking them through the process of designing a Web site. The biplatform CD consists of a five-step process which uses an animated, talking character to guide kids through each step. The process begins with kids choosing from professional web site "blueprints" and thematic background graphics to use as the foundations for their sites. Next they use their creative talents to decorate the backgrounds using their own familiar graphics program. Finally, they can add messages, sound files, and links to other web sites to each of their pages. Once they're satisfied with the finished product, they will upload their new sites to the Web.The accompanying full-color 50-page booklet provides a visual, road map-like reference for the kids to use while they create their Web sites. It contains diagrams of the user interface and blueprints of the various Web templates provided, plus advice on the best uses for each blueprint and graphic template, to help the young designers decide which backgrounds they like best. The book also includes "dressed up" samples to provide design ideas and inspiration.
