My 8 yr. old found this too hard to read herself but it would be super for pre-teens. Very engaging story.

Read-aloud joy for the whole family
Like all of Edward Eager's work, this is a clever and hilarious book with an original plot and likable characters.

A WONDERFUL READ
This is the best among Edward Eager's books about magic (every one of which, by the way, is worth reading). A family of children acquire a talisman that will grant their wishes, but only half of what they desire, unless they always remember to wish for twice as much of what they want. I first read this gem as a child, and in rereading it as an adult I found it just as funny.
