Carl Sandburg made up these stories for his young daughters. but they have a much wider appeal. They were read to me on a train to Minnesota when I was six year old, and I have read them to myself nearly sixty years later and still enjoyed them. In fact, I enjoyed them more, since I had missed a lot of stuff when I was six. Personaly, I'd recommend them for people nine and up. Like the Oz books, they're American fairy stories.
