Biological Science by Scot Freeman is well written and concise. A wealth of clear and colorful diagrams and illustrations make the material easy to understand and enjoyable to read. The international version, which I purchased, was identical in content to the US version and saved me a lot of money. It is paperback instead of hardback, but for the price difference, it is well worth it.

Very useful
I studied biology some years ago, but I've learnt so many new things from reading this book. It doesn't just present the facts, but incorporates them in a style that makes the reader aware of how biologists experimented and researched their way to what is known in biology.
With an emphasis on experimental design, the reader learns to appreciate what is required for investigating the challenges that lie ahead in this field.
My one complaint would be, that although the diagrams are well drawn, their layout could be better incorporated with regard to the text. (For example, figures referred to over the page in the text.).
