This first of what was to be a trilogy, but grew to a quintet of books, is a fascinating look at what happens when a magic Fey King calls to the magic in "ordinary" Ellysetta Barristani - a fey-tale story of love, loss, growth, and challenge to become more than ordinary. CL Wilson creates a believable magical kingdom which, threatened by evil, must step beyond tradition, beyond expectations, to become stronger, better champions of the light, and Ellysetta is an integral part of that change. A marvelous love story, it has the classic elements of heroism, courage and tenderness. CL Wilson's characters have depth, and one cannot wait to see how those characters grow and change over the course of the books to come.

magic and beasts
This is a second to the first I read (Lord of the Fading Lands). I read it simply because I read the first. There are 2 more to follow and I will read them as well. Not so much because I loved the books (but I DID like them); but because I hate to read only a part of a series. This is a period piece on a land where beast, demons and shape shifters live - along with magic that ties communities and binds people. A simple gal (at least we are led to believe that in the first and through part of this book) calls to her soulmate and he comes. He is a shapeshifting magical beast/man. She is obviously the same even through she tries to thwart the magic corsing through her. This second is how her magic comes to the fore while the enemy Mage High Lord is trying to find her to use her to destroy the Fey/Tairins. She and her intended have other ideas. This part of the story shows them tested and trying to hold it together. He tries to protect her several times, only to find that she is greater than he in her magical powers. At the battle near the end, her true self emerges and they wed to go to the Fading Lands in the Mist. They won the major battles this book, but not without consequence of loss and lives given. The next book will likely start where this one left off - as they leave her home city to travel to her new home. I am actually looking forward to reading it. If you like magic,fairy tales without the cartoon images, you will enjoy the book. The story is good as well. If you do not like to stretch your imagination or like magical time pieces this is not a pick up for you.
