Story of a ruthless husband and wife team who destroyed the Western North Carolina mountains and its people by clear cutting forests indiscriminately and killing everybody who tried to stand up to them. People and events are fictional but correlate to real people living at the time. Pretty accurate historically, in representing the social and economical conditions of the time in NC mountains.

This book kept my interest from the first page. Serena was an evil person. Loved reading about the early logging in North Carolina mountains. I could not put the book down once I started it. Highly recommend for pleasure reading and for book clubs.
