A New York Times Bestselling Author If the massive crater of the volcano Cumbre Vieja on the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands was ever to erupt, it would send a mega-tsunami with waves more than 150 feet high crashing onto American shores, destroying cities from Miami to Boston. Now, what if someone sent a nuclear missle into the volcano and blew it up? This was my first book by this author. I've since read all of his books. This was excellent. Based on the premise that a terrorist organization in a submarine plans to fire a nuclear-tipped cruise missile into the Canary Islands in order to cause a giant tsunami to inundate the entire eastern seaboard of the U.S. The concept is both plausible and terrifying. The villains are cruel and driven by strange ideology. Robinson is a master of detail as he chronicles the mass relocation of both people and treasures to higher ground. He makes you believe it's possible to turn off satellites that control GPS and to force a President to resign. The only thing I wondered about was why they waited so long to evacuate the people since the terrorists told them when they planned to strike. I know this was written before the Indian Ocean tsunami, but I still believe there would have been more panic.
