This is an important but already well established classic on the subject of addiction. It deals with the spiritual rather than the psychological aspects of addiction and should be helpful to professionals and sufferers alike.
I found it enlightening and very readable and, for such a short work, chock-full of wisdom.

Spirit Led
In Addiction and Grace Gerald G. May establishes the causes of addiction in both psychological and biblical terms. Through the chapters May weaves a comprehensive understanding of what addiction is and how it is caused and simply put it is caused by the displacement for God and replaced with objects or people. When the addicted person has a real encounterance with God they are able to put God back in the place He belongs, at the center of their life.
I believe this book deserves five stars...there was something wrong with the customer rating above the review.

I am a recovering alcoholic for 15 years
I must have read 100 books on the subject. When you first join you are urged to buy the "Big Book" titled alcoholics anonymous and the "12 & 12" Someone will give these to you if you can't afford it. There is a publisher that I think exclusively prints only recovery books. I have read so many, but mostly they are the same thing said in different ways.I have never really come across anything new, only different ways of saying the same thing Gerald mays book stand out with completely original concepts and theories . Reading this , even being sober 15 years, completely renewed my program. It is really a shame that this was not published in the 1930's when the "Big Book" was published, it might have saved a lot of lives. If you know anyone that has an issue with addiction, which you will see is everyone, this is the best gift they will ever get. G.Burt
