Seller's Description:
Very Good/Fine. Book 14 cassette tapes. 20 hours, unabridged. Read by John McDonough. Frank Baum's classic tale, we heard only her side of the story. But what about her arch-nemesis, the mysterious Witch? Where did she come from? How did she become so wicked? And what is the true nature of evil? Gregory Maguire creates a fantasy world so rich and vivid that we will never look at Oz the same way again. Wicked is about a land where animals talk and strive to be treated like first-class citizens, Munchkinlanders seek the comfort of middle-class stability, and the Tin Man becomes a victim of domestic violence. And then there is the little green-skinned girl named Elphaba, who will grow up to become the infamous Wicked Witch of the West, a smart, prickly, and misunderstood creature who challenges all our preconceived notions about the nature of good and evil.

Even better the second time!
I love this story! I had given my paperback copy to my daughter, but later bought both "Son of a Witch" and "Lion Among Men" in hard covers. When "Out of Oz" came out, I decided to make it 4-volume set, so ordered this copy as a replacement. I enjoyed it even more the second time through, as small unnoticed elements, which were picked up in sequels, now had more significance in "Wicked".

A must read before seeing the Play!
For anyone who grew up with the movie, this is a passionate, surprising "prequel" to the truth behind Oz and the so-called "wicked" witches involved in the politics of same.

AWESOME!!!
This book was soooo good!!! I loved every second of it! I really enjoyed trying to connect the dots of this story with The Wizard of Oz. I think Gregory Maguire is amazing and I can't wait to read all of this other work.
