An excellent book describing the incredible efforts in North Platte Nebraska in supporting our servicemen and women in World War II. Those who are too young to remember the war will get a glimpse of patriotism at its finest. I have given about eight copies to others and maintain a couple on hand for others,

You will be amazed and proud
Everyone should read this book. The stories are fact, not fiction, but every few pages, you have to remind yourself that anything this wonderful actually happened. It is a testament both to the local people who gave everything in hopes of cheering on the young soldiers, and to the spirit of the soldiers themselves.
There are lessons all of us could learn from this book that will leave you both astonished and proud.

One of Bob's best
To many servicemen and women traveling eastward or westward through the country during World War II, a short stop in North Platte, Nebraska, was an unexpected highlight of their war experience. The story of these women, men, girls and boys of the North Platte area is told many years later by the syndicated columnist for the Chicago Tribune, Bob Greene. His sensitivity and interest in the folks who brought about this miracle in the privations of wartime shows through at every paragraph. Bob spent time with the people who were there and who witnessed the amazing feat of a small town feeding and honoring these soldiers, sailors and airmen with their care and concern. And they did it every single time a train passed through for the entire duration of the war!
This story makes one proud to be an American and Bob Greene tells it best!

Heart Warming Story of Homefront WWll
This is the story of North Platt Nebraska and how they fed all service men coming through on troop trains during the second world war. It is a heartwarming story of how things were at that time and how people sacrificed to help those going to war.
