In this song book the composer Donald Swann gives Tolkien characters Bilbo, Treebeard, Sam Gamgee and Tom Bombadil tunes for their ballads of the road. Professor Tolkien approved of this and added a tune of his own, decorated the book in his own hand and added a glossary of Elvish terms and lore that appears nowhere else.

Seller's Description:
Quarto. ix, 68pp. Original pale boards with red titles. Faint spotting to covers, otherwise very good indeed in a slightly worn, marked and edge nicked, unclipped, very good dust jacket. 1968 1st edition.
Donald Swann, freed from his partnership with Michael Flanders, wrote elegiac tunes, a perfect match for Tolkien's lyrics. We borrowed a friend's copy long ago, but had to return it (naturally), so it's lovely to have our own copy at last.

Delightful
I consider this book to be an essential part of any serious collection of Tolkien material. I had a copy of this book many years ago, but it vanished on me, and I'm very glad to have it again. I only wish that you could also purchase a cd and be able to listen to the songs.
