SOMEONE NEW IS PLAYING GOD The Frankenstein story updated to the 21st century by the great American storyteller Dean Koontz. Created centuries ago by a madman, possessed of seemingly supernatural powers and a dogged drive for justice, the mysterious Deucalion arrives in New Orleans as the next generation of Dr Frankenstein's monsters are about to be unleashed by their deranged maker, now known as Victor Helios. Deucalion's path will cross with that of tough police detective Carson O'Connor and her partner, Michael Maddison, who are on the trail of a vicious serial killer stalking the city, a killer who selects his victims for the humanity that is missing in himself. Reluctantly, Carson will join forces with Deucalion against a far greater, terrifying threat: an entire race of killers who are much more - and less - than human ... Deucalion seeks one final confrontation with the evil genius who created him, Dr Frankenstein. Dean Koontz, the master storyteller, creates a bold new legend.

It?s been a considerable amount of time since I?ve read any of Dean Koontz?s work, (I?m talking since Midnight and The House of Thunder.) Prodigal Son, the first in a series that?s a spectacular modern re-imagining of Mary Shelley?s classic Frankenstein. Fans of HBO?s Dexter and the Hannibal Lector movies will rejoice as they get their fill in this vividly graphic suspense-thriller, with its laugh out loud sarcasm, and at times disturbing images, which has two cops chasing after a serial killer in Louisiana. Or, is it killers?
Reasonably, it?s hard to believe that the true Dr. Frankenstein is real and actually exists. In his exhausting desperate search for perfection and immortality, his experiments begin to run amok and out of his control. However, with just the right touch of artistry bringing to light Aldous Huxley?s Brave New World and the mythology of Deucalion, it?s easier to find yourself believing that this could have the potential to happen.
This is fast-paced, high action at its best, and with the skills of the famously reputable authors Dean Koontz and Kevin J. Anderson, supernatural fiction doesn?t get any better than this. I?m fighting to not pick up the next book, City of Night, right away. Perhaps I?ll check out the USA network movie that was based off this incredible series first.

Frankenstein's new legacy
I would highly recommend this set of books to anyone who enjoys this type of book, but only after the final book is released, I've been waiting 3 years now. Koontz toke the classic Frankenstein and placed it into modern times. The story line is well thought out and the characters are well developed. This book was used as a pilot for a series on tv a few years back but the creative licences the director took completely butchered the story and turned a great book into a television flop.
