The first of an apparent trilogy, a fantasy novel in the manner of C.S. Lewis (Lion, Witch and Wardrobe), J.R.R. Tolkien (Lord of the Rings) and George R.R. Martin (Ice ans Fire). The beginning is slow and I had to persevere for a while but got into it. A group of five Canadians is transported to another place (plain of existence, universe, time?) by a mage and his source. One is separated from the others in transit, then each is given a role of sorts in the new place to fight against an evil.

an extreamly good book
the Summer Tree is a well written book with an excelent story and greate caracters. it is the first book in the Fionavar tapestry (three books) wich all hold the same high standard. Kay mixes mythology, "history", magic and the ordenary and creates a new fantastic world, the trilogy is definatly among the "top ten", and it gets better every time I read it.
