Dispatched, from the UK, within 48 hours of ordering. Though second-hand, the book is still in very good shape. Minimal signs of usage may include very minor creasing on the cover or on the spine.
A wonderfully short, well written story of a young impoverished French teen from a horribly disfunctional family scratching out a living near SaDec Vietnam. She decides to have an affair with an older man who is Chinese. Read it for the color and phrasing. I was lucky enough to see the house of the father of The Lover when I was in Vietnam recently...at least where the movie was filmed. The movie is very good as well, but for adults only.
I also recommend The War: A Memoir, a series of short stories by Duras about her life in occupied Paris at the end of the Nazi occupation, and other works of fiction.

marguerite?
his is a rather short book of 117 pages and a quick read if one desires to breeze through it and not try to follow the order of her writing. She jumps in time often from paragraph to paragraph, sometimes a 15 year old at others 38 and others 17. She talks of her lover and her family and how they really don't talk to each other. The person who wrote the introduction, Maxine Hong Kingston, seems to believe the book is auto-biographical or wishes it to be that way. Perhaps it is because I'm male, but in my mind it is more of a jumbling of a person's thoughts.
