The author dispels many of the myths about Napoleon, e.g., he was NOT an obsessive egotist, and his height actually was average for that day and age. The author explains how Napoleon embodied the spirit and goals of the French Revolution and frequently bettered the lives of the peoples he conquered. Napoleon was maligned by England primarily because he opposed the idea of monarchy and this threatened the English nobility. The first half of the book is a good read, but unfortuntely the narrative begins to drag abaout half-way through. Still, I'm very glad I read it. I now have a much better understanding of how Napoleon fit into history and how he promoted fairness and equality in government.
