Mr Petherick, a lawyer, is only interested in the logical approach to the mysteries, whereas Sir Henry Clithering, ex-commissioner of Scotland Yard, is obviously skilled at crime solving generally. And then there is Raymond's Aunt Jane - a gentle lady with snowy hair and pale blue eyes.
