Catalogue from the massive exhibition held December 2015 to February 2016 of the works of Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, born in Rottlluff (now Chemnitz) in 1884. Included were 60 paintings, two sculptures, more than 350 works on paper and exhibits from applied art. Schmidt-Rottluff was co-founder of the artist group Bridge (1905-1913) and is one of the most important German artists of the 20th century. His pictorial work is stylistically attributed to German Expressionism, of which he was a pioneer. His extensive oeuvre arose over a seven-decade creative process. The work of Karl Schmidt-Rottluff today forms the core of the Kunst-Collections Chemnitz. In this catalogue, all the works in the Chemnitz Art Collections are illustrated, documented and largely annotated.
