Spine in red cloth with gilt lettering; seafoam-green sides with blind stamped title on front. Interior is clean. Dust jacket has a short closed tear to the upper edge of the front panel; not price clipped; in an archival mylar sleeve. [32] pages. 11 x 8.25 inches. Based on the Latvian folktale, ''The Palace of the Cats. '' This adaptation is set in the Ukraine since both the author and artist have deep personal ties there. Eric Kimmel (b. 1946) is an American author of children's books. His work has been awarded a Caldecott Honor and he has also won multiple Sydney Taylor Book Awards and National Jewish Book Awards. He is Professor Emeritus of Education at Portland State University. The artist, Katya Krenina, is a native of Ukraine, where she studied drawing, painting, textile design, and tapestry weaving at the Lviv Academy of Arts. She then emigrated to the United States and earned a degree in illustration from Syracuse University. She is a professor of art at Le Moyne College and has taught there since 2008.
