Seller's Description:
New. Size: 8x5x0; Unread store shelf copy. Deutsche Lufthansa was founded in 1926 with the amalgamation of several other companies that had provided the backbone of German commercial aviation after the First World War. By the end of that year Lufthansa had over 120 aircraft of varying types. As commercial aviation expanded rapidly, so did the fortunes of Lufthansa. A rapid expansion saw the company operate routes to Peking as well as setting up South American subsidiaries. With the clandestine formation of a new German air force during the 1930s came the opportunity to use what were basically military types as fast civilian transports. As a result, the company was always at the forefront of technology. It operated zeppelins and the giant Dornier DoX flying boats in the prewar period. The outbreak of war saw a drastic curtailment of services and Lufthansa's last commercial flight for eleven years was in April 1945. In 1953, a new Lufthansa company was founded and orders placed for its first aircraft. From its 1950s post-war recovery to the present day, Lufthansa has seen a steady growth and is now recognised as one of the world's greatest airlines. Transatlantic mail flights and links with South America and the Far East showed the world what Germany could achieve and built Lufthansa's reputation for service and reliability which still exists today. In this photographic survey of the airline the emphasis has been squarely on the aircraft-and what an interesting group they are. 128 pages.
