Seller's Description:
Fine. First edition first printing softcover (not issued in hardcover) Fine, bright, apparently unread copy, very small bump to outer bottom tip. 333 pp. Witj 8-page photo insert. The shocking true story behind America's first mass suicide. The religious cult Heaven's Gate was founded in 1974; scholars have described it as a combination of New Age, Christian milleniariaism, and UFOology. In late March, 1997, 39 members including the leader Marshall Applewhite, committed mass suicide by ingestion of phenobarital mixed with applesauce or pudding and washed down with vodka. They believed that after death, a UFO would take them to some higher plane of existence. They were all dressed identically, including pairs of new Nike Decades athletic shoes, and all carries a five dollar bill and three quarters in their pockets. This scarce account was assembled from New York Post and includes graphic, untold descriptions from inside the Death House, backstories on the 39 cultists, Applewhite's sexual secrets, a "Star Trek" star's tragic family secret, and more.
