The Life Savers is author Varoujan Karentz's third historical book concentrated around Rhode Island activities. He is a retired Corporate Director and subsidiary operations vice president from a major electronics defense contractor. During his earlier positions, he wrote numerous technical papers and was a contributing author to a monthly magazine . Since his retirement he has been involved in historical and educational activities of non profit organizations. He has held executive positions in various organizations involved with preservation, museums and historical documentation. As an off shore sailor for 20 years, builder of two cruising sailboats, ex- U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Navy navigator he is familiar with the risks at sea and impacts of severe weather. Varoujan Karentz is presently a member of the Board of Directors of the Beavertail Lighthouse Museum Association in Jamestown Rhode Island and the Indian River Youth Sailing Foundation of Vero Beach, Florida. He previously was Commodore of the Southern Cross Association and a docent at the Herreshoff Maritime Museum, Bristol, Rhode Island.
