Karin B. Michels is Professor and Chair of the Department of Epidemiology at the Fielding School of Public Health at UCLA. She received a ScD in Epidemiology from Harvard University and a PhD in Biostatistics from Cambridge University, UK. She was Assistant and Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School until she joined UCLA in 2016. Dr. Michels is a co-founder of the field of epigenetic epidemiology. Her work focusses on the early life origins of cancer, the role of nutrition in maintaining health, and the impact of the environment on the epigenome and the microbiome. She has published more than 300 peer-reviewed publications.
