Joe Freitus lives with his wife Anne in Williamsburg, Virginia. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. A science teacher for 30 years, he wrote books about edible wild plants then decided to write about history, especially war related events, in fiction and non-fiction. He has written 19 books, worked as a sail maker at Jamestown Settlement and rigging ships for movies such as John Adams.
